I wound up looking at analytical balances (very precise scales generally used for weighing chemicals) for work yesterday. There were lots of options, and the vendor was kind enough to provide a parametric search tool to help narrow things down. The trouble is that it’s not very useful.

In terms of whether or not a balance should have a serial interface, I’d be hard-pressed to tell you how “built-in,” “included,” “standard,” and “yes” are different. Still, you have to pick exactly one option, and they all return different results. Sigh.
